Ginger,
I'm very sorry to see anyone invest in Bimini Bay. The project has been an on
again, off again disaster for years. Capo promises the world and often stiffs
his contractors. There have been lawsuits filed against him. More importantly
the Bimini Bay project will destroy the only mangrove estuary on that entire
part of the Bahama Bank thus trashing the reef fish stocks for hundreds of
square miles. Also, the project is billed as "providing jobs for Bahamians"
when in reality Capo is importing poor Mexicans because he can pay them next to
nothing. The Bahamian Government, looking for investment money, looks the other
way while Capo falsely slaps "Environmentally Friendly" all over a project that
would never be allowed in the United States. The previous government's prime
Minister, Hubert Ingraham, prohibited Capo from touching East Bimini. In
reality all of North Sound, both west and east, needed protection and so the
current government (PLP party) ran in the last election with promises of
being "more environmentally conservative" that the sitting FNM government. The
people of Bimini believed them and voted heavily PLP helping to return them to
power. Immediately the PLP quietly gave Capo everything he wanted including
permission to destroy East Bimini. To this day the people of Bimini have not
been kept informed of these decisions and are not allowed to have a say in any
of it. Some blindly think that they will all make money but Capo's past broken
promises and importation of the Mexicans makes this doubtful. He has broken
promise after promise to protect the environment and continues to do so. If
you want pictures and articles about some of his past atrocities please email
me directly. Further, those houses in Phase 1 are built on uncompacted sand
right near the edge of his manmade sand cliff along the western shore. One hit
from a hurricane and much of that place will be heavily damaged if not
completely destroyed. There is also a rumor in Bimini that a new $100 million
three phase power plant will be needed to properly power the additional
development phases and that there is no money for it. Personally I can't say.
No adequate solution has been found to dealing with the sewer and waste
disposal since the refuse from this mammoth project will soon overwhelm the
existing garbage dump on South Bimini and the sewerage will contaminate the bay
and/or the adjacent reef systems. The Bimini Bay project is too big for such a
small island. On the whole the Bimini Bay project is an ill conceived greedy
disaster that should have been stopped before it started. Unfortunately money
smooths over everything but the residents of Bimini(including you)will be left
holding the bag. The reef tract, the wildlife, everything that is nice about
Bimini will be destroyed. This is not hype; I have studied Bimini
extensiveley and this is the reality. Next time you are on island I would
recommend that you rent a kayak or take a guided tour of the East Wells
estuarine channel area on East Bimini to see what Capo's project will destroy
in the name of a golf course and houses. Do not trust his rhetoric. If Capo's
project can be called "environmentally sound" then the bombing of Hiroshima
could have been called a "redevelopment project".
Pass it on.

: It broke my heart to see the coves at the northern end of Bimini completely

: : in the contract??? Please let me know as we are negotitating this
currently:
: : Has anyone had settlement yet at the Bimini Bay Development??? I know that
