I stayed at Xanadu 10 years ago, but don't have any info on its current state.
The beach is nice and is quiet.
You would need to rent a car because Xanadu is isolated. I don't thik there is
any public bus service to Xanadu. also, the public busses stop running after 7
PM and the taxis are very expensive.
Also, the International Bazaar is mostly empth after the 2004/2005 huricane
damage, so most of the restaurants/activities are at Port Lucaya. You will
need to get a car to go there.
In addition, a car will allow you to see the island and get to some places that
are impossible to get to without renting a car or taking a expensive tour. for
example, if you like to snorkel, Paradise cove is the best snorkeling on the
island. A tour costs $30-$35 per person. If you drive there, you can snorkel
for $5-$10/person. You can rent a car for $40/day, so one tour can pay for a
days car rental. Another great place to go is Gold Rock Beach and the Lucayan
National park. Brad's car rental is one of the most affordable and best on the
island. If you have specific questions, you can e-mail me at calm@lilly.com.
