Hi Martin, your wife and son,
The timeshare at Vacation Club at Royal Oasis (formerly known as Vacation Club
at Bahamia)is located in the Holiday Inn Sunspree (part of the Royal Oasis Golf
Resort & Casino).
They have done lots of renovations at the Royal Oasis Golf Resort & Casino
(formerly known as the Resort at Bahamia) but they have NOT done any
renovations as yet to the timeshare units which are definitely timeworn and
have older furnishings!!!! The Holiday Inn Sunspree (where the timeshares are
located) was built in the 1960's.
The Royal Oasis Golf Resort & Casino (formerly Resort at Bahamia) is comprised
of the Crowne Plaza (formerly Tower at Bahamia) and the Holiday Inn Sunspree
(formerly the Country Club at Bahamia).
The Royal Oasis Golf Resort & Casino operates about 98 timeshare units in a
reconfiguration of 2 wings in the Holiday Inn Sunspree (formerly Bahamas
Princess Country Club and Country Club at Bahamia and before that known as The
King's Inn).
Timeshare guests have full use of all facilities at Royal Oasis Golf Resort &
Casino, including free green fees at both golf courses (Ruby & Emerald) but
have to pay about $35 to use a golf cart.
The timeshare units at Royal Oasis are hotel rooms that have been converted
into efficiencies (studio units) and 1& 2 bedroom units. All units are air-
conditioned and carpeted with 2 TVS, 1 in the bedroom and 1 the living room.
The mini kitchenette has a mini fridge, a two-burner surface stove top cooking
unit (NO oven), dishwasher, coffeemaker, blender & microwave. Dishware and
cookware are provided. The kitchenette (standing room only) has a closet, large
enough for a washer/dryer, but there isn't one. So you can use the extra space
to store your luggage. There is a closet in the bedroom.
The mini fridge is located under the bar counter. The mini fridge has a small
freezer, just enough space in the freezer to fit a few ice trays but NOT enough
room to pack any BIG amounts of frozen food. I would say that there is room
for 2 steaks and maybe some flat packages of meat, especially since ice is
provided and you can remove the ice trays to have more room. It should be
noted, though, that if you plan on buying a lot of food to cook in the room,
the refrigerator may be a bit TOO SMALL to store very much.
The bathroom (70's looking) connects the living room area & bedroom. The
bathroom is an ensuite bathroom, a double sink vanity in the outer room and the
toilet and tub in the inner room. The showers have seen better days (clean but
old).
The 1 bedroom unit is an okay size and has a fold-out bed in living room area,
a partial kitchen (mini-kitchenette - standing room only), a full bathroom, and
a large bedroom with a king-size bed.
The Holiday Inn Sunspree property has a GREAT grotto hot tub, which stays open
late. There's space enough for 20-25 people and there are flat spots on the
rocks where you can rest your drink.
The Holiday Inn Sunspree has a nice pool area. The pool area/hot tub is nice.
The chairs are a little worn, but the pool and hot tub are okay.
Of course, now The Royal Oasis Golf Resort & Casino has a fabulous new lagoon
pool which has a huge waterfall and 2 waterslides and a swim up bar and grill!!
It's between the two sister hotel properties.
The Royal Oasis Casino is across from the Holiday Inn Sunspree. It is not a
big casino so don’t expect a casino like the ones you find in Atlantic City or
Las Vegas.
The John B. Lounge is an outside open air lounge/bar with a roof overhead,
located at the back of the Holiday Inn Sunspree, by the poolside – it has a
laid-back atmosphere and is a fun place to dance to live music by the Sunglows
(when they are performing) or to music played by the DJ.
The Royal Oasis Golf Resort & Casino is located about 2-3 miles from Grand
Bahama International Airport.
It is just a few minutes walk from the timeshare units to the International
Bazaar and main straw market.
A free shuttle bus takes you to Xanadu Beach (not the greatest beach) but you
can take the public bus ($1.00 per ride) to Lucaya Beach which is nicer than
Xanadu in my opinion. Port Lucaya Marketplace is just across from Lucaya Beach -
has shops, restaurants, open air bars all in a nice marina waterfront setting,
and there's usually free live music in the evenings when the island is busy.
If you do not have any high expectations, a vacation here is okay.
Hope my information is helpful.
Best regards,
Carrie
