Hi there all - just wanted to check in and see if anyone knew the condition
: of
: : the island as of yet. We are scheduled to cruise to Nassau 09/13 (next
: Monday)
: : and I just wanted to check the status of the area to know what might be in
: : store for us once we get there. Thanks!
:
:
: Hello, I am writing you from the capital. Downtown Nassau is being cleaned
up,
: and the though the straw market was badly hit, it should be back up by the
time
: you arrive. I understand that there may have been some damage to Prince
George
: Wharf, which is where the cruise ships dock, so please call your cruise line
: for further details. Nassau has been damaged, but our systems are coming
back
: up. Most phone lines did not go down, and the roads are being cleared of
: debris, most people are back to work today. We were not as badly hit as
Grand
: Bahama and Abaco, some of which was completely destroyed. Here in Nassau,
: there is foliage damage, some trees down, poles down, some roof damage, but
the
: beaches are clean as a whistle. As far as I know, the docks were not damaged
: so shipping should not be a problem, and food will not be an issue. There is
a
: water plant here so fresh water is not a problem, and the airport is already
: open. Our restaurants are open, our stores are open and we are ready for
your
: visit. May I suggest seeing Atlantis on Paradise Island, which you can reach
: by taxi via the bridge or by ferry where there is a straw market that has not
: been damaged and many restaurants and sights. We are all feeling very lucky
: now, and you can hear news about our countrymen's plight here on 100 jamz
radio
: which is broadcast online. We are at 80% electricity island wide, and phones
: are up. Please know we would love to have you here with us. At the moment,
I
: can safely say that the damage in Nassau has been minimal when compared with
: other islands. However, please note that Hurricane Ivan may be hitting us
next
: weekend, but that is not certain.
:
: Thanks,
: Shelley
