Hi Kim,
If you rent a car I would recommend KSR Rent-A-Car (www.ksrrentacar.com) or
Brad's Car Rentals (www.bradscarrental.com). Brad’s Car Rentals is located
right at the airport. Both of these car rental companies have good reputations
and reasonable prices.
The Winn Dixie grocery store will not be open on Sunday – it is only open on
Sundays from 7am-10am. All other days it stays open till about 9pm. The
liquor store will probably not be open on Sunday.
I think the Oasis pharmacy and sundry shop, located in the International
Bazaar, along the walk way after the Royal Oasis Casino (a 5 minute walk from
the Crowne Plaza hotels) will be open on Sunday – here you can buy milk,
sodas, and some snack items.
There are two bus stops near the Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Casino at Royal
Oasis and International Bazaar.
One is located across from Burger King near Ranfurly Circus traffic circle and
the other is located about 200-300 yards west of the main straw market behind
the International Bazaar.
Buses run from 7am-7pm and cost $1.00 per person per ride. You must have the
exact change or a dollar bill. You pay on your way out of the bus.
These buses (jitneys) are usually small, modern mini-vans with seating for
about 12-14 passengers. Most are air-conditioned. These small vans will
have "public bus” written on the sides.
Taxi fare will cost approximately $14 from Grand Bahama Int’l Airport to
International Bazaar/Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Casino at Royal Oasis area (for
2 people - add about $3 for each additional person). Please note you will be
charged extra if you have luggage and golf clubs (about $1 for each piece of
luggage and about $2 for each golf bag).
One important note about your stay at the Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Casino at
Royal Oasis, they will not take cash at any of the restaurants or bars. If you
eat at any of the restaurants or bars at the Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Casino
at Royal Oasis, it has to be charged to a credit card or to your hotel room.
Your hotel room at Crowne Plaza Golf Resort will have a mini-fridge as well as
a coffeemaker. You may want to bring a coffee mug from home since the room will
only have the 6 oz. styrofoam cups. Bring one of those large 32 oz. insulated
glasses for your drinks. You might want to bring a few snacks from home. Just
do NOT bring any fresh fruit or fresh vegetables.
The Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Casino at Royal Oasis does NOT have a
beach.....so that is inconvenient. A FREE shuttle is provided to hotel guests
and it goes to the beachfront of Xanadu Beach Hotel several times a day.
Xanadu Beach is about 3.5 miles from the Crowne Plaza.
Each of the two hotels that make up the Crowne Plaza have their own individual
pools and then there is the larger "Beach Pool". The "Beach Pool" is very nice
with two water slides and waterfall and swimup bar - the waterslides stay open
only for a few hours each day.
The John B. Lounge/Bar is a night spot for people who want to go out dancing.
It has a nice outdoor atmosphere and is located at the Crowne Plaza Country
Club section overlooking the pool.
If you get hungry late night, Ruby Swiss restaurant is just next to Crowne
Plaza Tower section of the Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Casino at Royal Oasis and
has good food. I love the conch chowder and hot bread at Ruby Swiss as well as
the shrimps and fries. It is open till the wee hours of the morning.
Burger King, McDonalds and Subway (fast food subs) are just a short walk from
Crowne Plaza.
Le Chicken Shack is just about 7 minutes walk from Crowne Plaza. It's a take-
out place...and has great chicken in the bag, BBQ, ribs....and reasonably
priced. So you might want to take it back to your room. Make sure you bring
some paper plates from home.
Zorba II Restaurant is located in the Int'l Bazaar and has reasonable prices.
They close at 5pm. The original Zorba Restaurant is located at Port Lucaya
Marketplace and is open in the evenings, unlike Zorba II at the Int’l Bazaar.
Wishing you a pleasant trip.
best regards,
Carrie

: We were going to rent a scooter for two days so we could have a little
freedom
: to explore the island. But after reading how much it is to get from the
: airport to the hotel and the hotel to the grocery store, we are starting to
: think maybe just renting a car at the airport might be the way to go. Any
: opinions? Also, it will be on a Sunday at 3:00 pm when we arrive and we are
: staying at the Crowne Plaza. Will the grocery store and liquor store be open
: on Sunday?

: Thanks
