Beware of the Turtles Nest and Bahamas Vacation Homes Reality!
This is a summary of our experience at the turtles nest in north Eleuthera in
June 2008:
1) The hot water smelled so much like sewage that we could not shower. Capt Ron
ran the water and it smelled less, however we would have still smelled worse
after a shower than before.
2) Frogs in the bathroom sink. Capt Ron poured bleach down the sink and said
that would take care of the problem, however, four hours later they were back.
My theory is that the drain plumbing is defective and is open above ground for
animals to crawl into it.
3) The house smelled like mildew, which gets much worse when the air
conditioning is turned on. The linens and pillows smelled like mildew,
indicating they have not been cleaned for a long time. My wife woke up several
times during the first night because of this excessive smell.
4) You have to endure 20 minutes of bone jarring ride down the "road" every time
you come and go. In the taxi coming to the turtles nest, my wife was almost
sick to her stomach from the bouncing.
5) The house is advertised on a private peninsula, being private and secluded.
However we discovered that the "road" next to the house is a public road when
the farmer next door woke us up at 7:30am. Capt Ron says that he comes right up
to the house every morning and turns around, and that "it's common knowledge"
that the road by the house is a public road. The pennisula is private alright,
it's owned by someone else. The turtles nest property is very small.
We feel that these types of things should have been disclosed, and asked Bahamas
Vacation Homes for 1/2 of our money back. We did not receive a reply.
