American's and Canadian's are just the same. the person that wants to hire you
has to apply the to Veronon Burrows, Minister of Immigration. But before that
can even be done, the employer needs to set an ad in the paper to see if there
are any qualified Bahamians that can do the job first. then apply to the
Ministry of Labour for a Certificate of Vacancy indicating that there are no
qualified bahamians. then an application (Form 1) is submitted with all your
particulars - letter's of references, certificates of education etc. to the
Department of Immigration. The application has to go in front of the Board of
Immigration, they will meet on it and then deciede if you will be approved or
not. If you are approved, you can expect it to then take another month to
actually have the application in your hand. the whole process is long and
tiresome.
I am Canadian and I work down there. I also do all the work application for
the permits of any of the ex-pats we hire.
If you have any more questions, you can e-mail me.
