Subject: Can I live in bahamas if I start a HEDGE FUND there?
Message:
I currently live in Canada where I own a business, but most of my income is
made from trading stock index futures through the internet. I have made over
100% just in the last 3 months and am making large amounts of money. I am
trying to escape Canada's high taxes on those trading profits.
I don't have enough money to buy a $500,000 house in Bahamas yet, maybe in a
year or two I will. But I would like to live in Bahamas NOW now later,
thereby becoming a "non-resident" of Canada for tax purposes.
I have considered the possibility of doing my trading via the start-up of my
own hedge fund, which could also accept other investors if I wished.
So here is my question:
If I incorporate a new hedge fund in the Bahamas, and I am acting as the
manage of that hedge fund, does that entitle me to live as a "resident" in the
Bahamas, even though I have not bought a house there?
What issues are involved? Can I be the only "owner" of the hedge fund? Or
do I need a Bahamian partner to own at least 51% of the business?
Anyone know anything about this?
